Bedtime Stories
In an attempt to prepare for parenthood, Tim has been telling me bedtime stories for the last few nights. The first story was about Goldilocks and the three bears from the bears perspective. The story ended with Goldilocks being eaten by a bear. The second story was about was about Rapunzel; a spoiled child who did not like listening to her mother. Oddly enough she was also eaten by a bear. The next story was about Little Red Riding Hood. She was not eaten by a bear but she was eaten by a wolf. Last night's story was Sleeping Beauty. Obviously this was not the Disney version of the story. It turns out that Sleeping Beauty was something of a narcoleptic who ate an apple and fell asleep. The prince in this story was a 40-something slacker who lived in his parents' castle and played video games all day. The prince married Sleeping Beauty in an attempt to appease his parents desire that he do something with his life and so that he would not get kicked out of the royal castle. No romance or soft kiss in this story. This was a marriage of convenience. The good news is Sleeping Beauty was not eaten by a bear at the end. Fairy Tales have certainly changed since I was a little girl. Perhaps I will have Tim stick to the classics like The Paper Bag Princess for bedtime stories in future.
