Happy Halloween

Our first Halloween in Connecticut went well I think. It is the first time I have been in a neighborhood to hand out candy to trick-or-treaters for several years. It was really fun to see group of kids traveling through the street all dressed up in their costumes. One of my favorite costumes of the night was a boy dressed as a giant whoopee cushion.

Of course I had to be one of those over-the-top pet owners that dresses up their dog. I went for the tame jack-o-lantern tee shirt for Butter this year. Next year we will try something more entertaining like a shark costume to show off her teeth.
Tim handed out most of the candy for the evening while watching the world series game. I think he also ate one piece of candy for every time the doorbell rang. I made pumpkin chocolate chip cookies in an effort to satisfy Tim's sweet tooth and hopefully save some of that candy for the neighborhood kids. If you have not had these cookies before you are missing out!

Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies (makes a lot of cookies)
2 cups sugar
1 cup butter
4 eggs
3 tsp. vanilla
4 cups flour
2 tsp. baking powder
2 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. salt
3 tsp. cinnamon
3/4 tsp. ground ginger
3/4 tsp. nutmeg
1 (29 ounce) can pumpkin
1 (12 ounce) package chocolate chips

Cream sugar, butter, eggs, vanilla together. Sift in flour and spices. Beat together with pumpkin. Fold in chocolate chips. Drop by spoonful onto greased cookie sheet.

Bake at 425 degrees for 10 minutes.
Makes about 6 dozen cookies.
