the adventures of Peter Cottontail....

There is a brown bunny with a white cotton tail that hangs out in our neighborhood. It has shown up several times around our yard when I go to take Butter out for her walks. One day the bunny was in our backyard and I did not know it. Butter took off out of the back door and was across the yard in seconds. I walked over and shut the small gate (note: our house is on a corner lot and the "backyard" is actually beside the house. The yard has a fence around 9/10 of it but is not completely enclosed. Tim and I put in a small gate to enclose the yard when Butter is out there. The idea being that she would not be able to get out. As you know from previous posts Butter has her own ideas about being contained). It turns out that closing the gate shut the bunny in the yard with the dog. It was quite a chase! Butter actually caught up with the bunny a couple of times but did not hurt it. She was just enjoying the chase. I felt like a rodeo hand trying to open the gate wide enough to let the bunny out but still be able to close it quickly before Butter ran through as well. In the end the bunny did make a successful escape. However, it has come back many times to taunt our dog. We see the bunny all over the neighborhood on our morning walks. It was even sitting on the sidewalk by our yard when we returned from the Vet. hospital last week. I guess it just likes to live dangerously.
