Lily was determined to turn one yesterday no matter how hard I tried to pretend it was not happening. Tim took the day off of work and the three of us spent the day together celebrating her big day. We went out to a little pizza place in the town center for lunch and enjoyed a tasty vegan pizza. The "cheese" was even soy-free and therefore very Lily safe. The pizza was tasty! I am sure we will be repeat customers.
Our next stop was the Noah Webster Library. The library has an amazing children's floor including a dedicated space for little non-walkers. The space is a shoe-free zone and basically completely cushioned. Perfect for crawling around and daddy playtime.
After nap time we all had a quiet dinner (leftover pizza from lunch). Lily opened lots of presents provided mostly by extended family. OK, I confess that one or two of the presents might have been sitting under the Christmas tree a couple of weeks ago and never got opened. Thankfully none of them had expiration dates and Lily enjoyed opening each one.
Dinner and present time were followed by candles and cupcakes (homemade and vegan of course). Lily immediately stuck her fingers in the frosting before the candle was even blown out. Unfortunately she did not appreciate the sweet stickiness on her fingers. She just could not get past the frosting on her hands to make any attempts at eating the cupcake. I can't say that I blame her. I am not a huge frosting fan myself.
I think she had a great day celebrating with Mom and Dad (even if she did not fully appreciate the frosting incident). Tim and I feel so blessed to have this little girl in our family. It has been a whirlwind year with lots of new parent learning moments along the way; aka the "it's a good thing she is so cute..." moments. They have all been worth it. This child has completely taken over our hearts.
stats from Lily's one year check-up:
28 and 3/4 inches tall (45th percentile)
18 inch head circumference (65th percentile)
18.5 pounds (10th percentile)
